This is to provide an update on the latest fixes, feature improvements and accessibility updates across the Colorado.gov CMS platform. Please review for any relevant information you may want to share with your CMS teams.

Features and fixes completed:

Fix for CKEditor - Unable to Insert Media

Description of Issue: Users encounter an issue across multiple sites where the CKEditor is not allowing them to insert media. This problem prevents users from adding images, videos, or other media content within the editor, impacting the ability to enrich content on the platform.

Form Field ID Length Limitation

Description of Issue: Currently, the form field ID’s in the application are limited to a maximum length of 64 characters. This limitation can restrict functionality for more complex use cases where longer ID names are required. To address this, a patch needs to be applied to extend the maximum allowable length of form field ID’s from 64 characters to 255 characters.

Fix for Accordion Pages | Expand All Functionality Not Working

Description of Issue: Expand All options on accordion pages are not functioning as expected. When users attempt to expand all sections, the content remains collapsed.

Twig Template Fix | Prevent Empty <h2> Tag from Rendering

Description of Issue: In the Twig template, an empty <h2> tag is being rendered when no heading content is provided. This results in unnecessary and empty HTML tags appearing in the markup, potentially affecting accessibility and page structure.

CKEditor 5 Plugin Pack | Add Font Families, Font Sizes, and Colors

Description of Feature: Enhancements are required for CKEditor 5 by adding new plugin capabilities that allow users to customize text styling. Specifically, the editor needs to support additional options for selecting font families, font sizes, and font colors. These enhancements will give users more control over text formatting, improving the editor’s versatility and allowing for richer content creation.

Success Criteria

FixDescription
1.4.3Ensure Menu Items Without Links Display Minimum Contrast Text

Menu items that are not linked to a specific page or piece of content, designated as <nolink> (see screenshot), do not display text with appropriate contrast for WCAG guidelines. Text shows up as black on the dark blue menu, as opposed to white when the menu item is linked to content.

TBMM now has contrast

1.3.1Ensure ARIA Regions, Landmarks, and HTML Sections are IdentifiableTo enhance the accessibility of the platform, it is essential that ARIA regions, landmarks, and HTML sections are clearly identifiable to users, particularly those utilizing assistive technologies like screen readers. Proper implementation of ARIA attributes and HTML5 landmarks (such as <header>, <nav>, <main>, and <footer>) ensures that the structure of the content is easily navigable and understandable.
4.1.2Ensure Input Element Does Not Rely on Placeholder Attribute for Accessible NameAn input element is relying on the placeholder attribute to provide an accessible name, without assigning an ARIA role or a visible label. This can lead to accessibility issues, as assistive technologies may not convey critical information to users. To meet WCAG 1.3.1 and 4.1.2 success criteria, it is important to ensure that input elements have a proper label or aria-label attribute to provide a clear, accessible name for all users, improving usability and compliance.
